Reteaming: 3 Key Conversations to Have With Your Team Right Now

On August 5, MMANC had the pleasure of hosting Claire Laughlin, of MRG Consulting, an engaging coach and trainer with over 20 years of experience bringing positive change to teams and organizations. During this webinar, Claire lined out a step-by-step approach for reconnecting and focusing our teams through a series team meetings. The first step answers the question “What have we learned?” This open and honest conversation discovers where the team is and what is working or not. For the second step, through two separate meetings, the team will craft a shared vision and lay out expectations to answer, “Who do we want to be?” These meetings are foundational and establish prioritized behaviors to build and preserve trust. They also seek commitment and identify indicators to keep the team accountable. During the third meeting, “How do we get there?” the team creates clarity by laying out the goals, deliverables and timelines to accomplish it all.

Claire explained in-depth the elements that create trust and the importance of setting that foundation. This is especially timely as remote teams that meet virtually are 2.5 times more likely to perceive mistrust and broken commitments while their concerns may take 5 to 10 times longer to be addressed. A recurring theme for leaders to gain and keep the trust of their teams is easily remembered as the three C’s: clarity, connection and consistency. Leaders and teams must ensure there is clarity about expectations, goals and deliverables, connect personally with their team members and their motivations, and be consistent with expectations and communication. Follow up materials were emailed to attendees with specific actionable information to carry out the Reteaming process.
